The Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) has frown at the increasing activities of cultists within the metropolis.

In a press release signed by the National President of the union, Alhaji AbdulHamid Adi, and made available to The Herald, the Union observed that “the report of recent killings and maiming of rival cult groups both within and outside the campuses of higher institutions is now a common phenomenon which the Union considers highly disturbing.”

The Union therefore called on government and security agencies to be “proactive in their responsibilities in checking the situation before it festers beyond redemption; considering the already charged political atmosphere due to the electoral process.

IEDPU also called on government to as a matter of urgency arrange a mop-up of small arms and ammunitions freely being used by cultists and other criminals. They appeal to government and security agencies “to implement the Union’s recommendations arising from her security summit last year”

They called on police and other security agencies to investigate all cases of violence and bring culprits to book to serve as deterant to others.

The press release also called on parents and guardians to be fully committed to proper up-bringing and monitoring of their children and wards to ensure a better future for them and our community. It also called on religious leaders to redouble their efforts in calling the people toward godly ways.”
